            Thomas John Patrick Welling, nasceu em 26 de abril de 1977, em
            Putnam Valley, West Point, New York. Passou seus primeiros anos em
            no estado Wisconsin, antes de mudar para Hoclessin, onde morou
            alguns anos. Mas de novo os Wellings se mudaram, dessa vez para
            Okemos. Tom cresceu como o pai, um engenheiro aposentado da General
            Motors, a mãe, e duas irmãs mais velhas e um irmão mais novo. 
             
            Na escola, Tom chegou a atuar em algumas peças, mas ele gostava
            também de esportes. O rapaz jogava basquete, baseball e futebol.
            Porém, nunca foi muito estudioso, então depois de se formar acabou
            não indo para a faculdade. Em vez disso foi fazer alguns pequenos
            trabalhos.  
                

      Em 1997, Tom mudou-se para Manhattan, onde começou a trabalahr como
      modelo. Logo em seguida já estaria viajando o mundo. No ano seguinte,
      conheceu Jamie A White, em um "Coffee Shop" em Miami. Tom e Jamie viriam a
      se casar em 5 de julho de 2002, em uma cerimônia pequena, com a presença
      de alguns amigos íntimos, incluindo Kristin Kreuk e Michael Rosenbaum, do
      seriado Smallville

      Porém, em Janeiro de 2000, Tom decidiu que não seria mais modelo.
      Encorajado por amigos e familiares Tom então decidiu que seria ator. Logo
      em seguida, mudou-se para Los Angeles. Sem nenhum treinamento como ator, e
      sem intenções de ter aulas, com a impressão que atuar não era tão difícil,
      Tom deu-se  um ano para tornar-se um ator de sucesso.

      Dezenas de testes depois, Tom começou a achar o processo divertido. Seus
      primeiros trabalhos foram comercias de tv para a TJ Maxx e Verizon, e um
      clipe da música 'Picture Perfect' da cantora Angela Via. 

      Em 2000, Tom fez sua grande aparição no seriado Judging Amy, interpretando
      o professor de caratê Rob Meltzer. Seu personagem deveria aparecer só em
      três episódios, mas a boa atuação de Tom, fez com que ele aparecesse em
      seis. No ano seguinte, conseguiu um papel pequeno na série Special Unit 2,
      interpretando Flower 'Scar' Roberts, no episódio The Depths. Logo depois
      participou do episódio piloto da série Undeclared. Em outubro de 2001, Tom
      foi chamado para o papel de Clark Kent, no seriado Smallville. 
       
      Por duas vezes, Tom recusou o papel, mas como estava desempregado o rapaz
      acabou aceitando o papel, e acabou se apaixonando por ele. 
       
      O seriado fez com que Tom tivesse que se mudar para Vancouver, no Canadá.
      Porém o moço passa seu tempo livre, com a esposa e os cachorros em Los
      Angeles.
